ABSTRACT

This paper leverages online content to investigate the biggest impact of COVID-19 - remote work, by using China as a primary case study. Telecommuting has become popular since February 2020 primarily due to the pandemic, and people have been slowly returning to their office from May 2020. This study focuses on two time windows in the year 2020 to calculate the growth of different job sectors. Our results indicate the negative impact of teleworking in manufacturing industry, but shows that information technology-related industries are less affected by working from home. This paper also investigates the impact of COVID-19 on the stock market and discussed what plan of action the policy makers should take to provide a good economic environment for the country. In addition to the overall economic situation, we observed how the psychological situation of employees could affect their job performance, indirectly affecting the development of certain industry sectors. Therefore, misinformation in certain Chinese social media channels was also studied in this paper specifically examining the rumors and their latent topics. We believe that our work will initiate a dialogue between scientists, policy makers and government officials to consider the observations highlighted in this paper. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

The main goal of this paper is to assess the impact of covid-19 on marketing practices and airlines' adaptation to the new business and economic environment. In the first part, we introduce a marketing mix framework and look at the impact of covid-19 on seat capacity and airline operating revenues. In the second part, we determine current marketing strategies using the marketing framework of the 4Ps and its impact on operational changes among full-service network carriers and low-cost carriers. The central theme in advertising and campaigns for full-service network carriers is high hygiene standards and cleanliness of flights, as passengers are concerned with not contracting covid-19 or other viruses during the longer flight routes. Low-cost carriers still focus primarily on the price and convenience to potential customers. Both types of carriers do improve and push out technology changes in terms of mobile apps, improved online check-ins and contactless, touchless kiosks used for airport check-ins. These slight changes increase passengers' comfort, speed up the check-in process and minimize the spread of any viruses. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Fintech involves advanced technology-based solutions for the customers while not being dependent on the banking system and rather focuses on the other virtual currency options. The emergence of these methods especially cryptocurrencies and blockchains after the financial crisis of 2008–9 is more important for the sustainability and development of a country since Fintech is also an advancement in mediums of money flow. The present research has explored the effect of Fintech on sustainable development (economic, society, and environment) while focusing on the existing literature. The previous literature and theories represent that there is a significant influence of Fintech on sustainable development however, the influence differs in different countries and situations. Based on this, the study has identified that there has been no research on the role of the Covid 19 pandemic among Fintech and sustainable development of Bahrain and suggested quantitative research for the future. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

Most studies have explored the Covid-19 outbreak by mainly focusing on restrictive public policies, human health, and behaviors at the macro level. However, the impacts of built and socio-economic environments, accounting for spatial effects on the spread at the local levels, have not been thoroughly studied. In this study, the relationships between the spatial spread of the virus and various indicators of the built and socio-economic environments are investigated, using Florida ZIP-code data on accumulated cases before large-scale vaccination campaigns began in 2021. Spatial regression models are used to account for the spatial dependencies and interactions that are core factors in Covid-19 spread. This study reveals both the spillover dynamics of the coronavirus spread at the ZIP code level and the existence of spatial dependencies among the unobserved variables represented by the error term. In addition, the findings show a positive association between the expected number of Covid-19 cases and specific land uses, such as education facilities and retail densities. Finally, the study highlights critical socio-economic characteristics causing a substantial increase in Covid-19 spread. Such results could help policymakers, public health experts, and urban planners design strategies to mitigate the spread of future Covid-19-like diseases.

ABSTRACT

The pandemic has presented governments with a variety of complex effects. These include the disruption of the entire economy, the development of mass unemployment, and the impact of the pandemic on the public health systems. It is also becoming clear that the timescale of the crisis may significantly change the foundations of society’s daily lives. This study is focused on analyzing the effects of Covid19 on the employment and businesses sectors. It also examined the various policies and actions that governments of selected countries took and can take to sustain the economic recovery. Although the pandemic has already caused unprecedented social and economic crises, it is still not over. The pandemic caused unprecedented health, economic environment, and social crises at the global level, however, several measures to curb the damages are underway, as the development of vaccines, immunization campaigns, job retention schemes, and financial support schemes to offset the worst economic impact of COVID-19. Under the current pandemic situation where new variants are still on the loose and causing trouble in many parts of the world, it is extremely important to maintain highly targeted support, especially towards the sustainable job market. Otherwise, bankruptcies and unemployment can make the economic recovery much harder. Strong economic policies can create and sustain jobs by supporting employers to avoid bankruptcies particularly for emerging and high-performing companies. To avoid experiencing the same issues that young people experienced during the global financial crisis, states should take immediate action to help them avoid falling behind. Concrete measures are required to sustain their connection with the education system and labor market. Copyright © 2022 Naqvi.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the socio-economic environment for doing business has changed significantly under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing sanctions on the Russian economy. The small business sector is particularly affected by these factors. The aim of the paper is to study the “reaction” of the Russian small and medium-sized businesses (SME) sector to the new economic environment and to analyse its “perception” of state support measures. The information base consists of the works of domestic and foreign scientists, the data of sociological research at the country level and at the regional level (subjects of the Northwestern Federal District). In the study, the methodology of system analysis was applied, sociological and statistical analysis was carried out. The results of the study show that despite the focus of the federal and regional authorities on creating conditions to offset the effects of external “shocks” on the business sector, there remain unresolved problems. These include low effective demand and poor business infrastructure in some areas, which hinders SMEs' access to finance for business development. This situation has led to a decline in SME revenues and employment, as well as a deterioration in the demographics of enterprises. The deterioration of the business environment has also been identified as having a negative impact on the attitudes and willingness of the population to engage in entrepreneurship. The authors assess the accessibility of state support measures for entrepreneurs using the example of the Vologda Oblast. On average, only about 60 % of those who applied for assistance were able to receive it. The authors prove that under the conditions of strengthening external shocks the necessity of state support for the SME sector increases, especially in terms of tax and financial support. The need to reduce administrative barriers to business, to provide an additional reduction of up to 10 % of insurance premiums charged on wages, to increase the period of repayment of preferential credit funds, etc. has been substantiated. © 2022 Kola Science Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences

ABSTRACT

The discovery and the spread of COVID-19 have forced countries to implement measures such as lockdown, resulting in economic slumps. These epidemic outbreaks always challenged humans, but we didn't fail to find opportunities in the midst of them and COVID-19 is also not an exception. Based on the SDGs Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), this study attempts to analyze the current external environment such as the political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological environment in the Indian perspective. The business opportunities and challenges arising from these environmental factors are discussed. Earlier pandemic and war outbreaks and the positive outcomes of these outbreaks are also discussed in this paper. © The Electrochemical Society

ABSTRACT

Environmental scanning has become increasingly crucial for an organisation’s existence and a matter of interest for scholars and professionals. This research presents an outline of the situation in the field of multidimensional environmental scanning, focusing on Slovenian micro, small and medium sized organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the paper aims to examine if top managers perceive the multidimensional (external) environment as uncertain and if there have been gender differences in multidimensional (external) environmental uncertainty perception during the COVID-19 pandemic. We researched the field of ecological, social, technological, economic, and political–legal environments. The nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test and descriptive statistics were used to test the research hypotheses. The results show that top managers are not aware enough of multidimensional environmental uncertainty. They do not perceive the ecological and social environment as unpredictable at all. Among the studied environments, they perceive the political–legal environment as most unpredictable. There are no statistically significant gender differences in perceptions of ecological, social, technological, economic, and political–legal environmental uncertainty. We suggest SME top managers pay more attention to environmental uncertainty and use environmental scanning methods to achieve more sustainable development.
